A little bit of history repeated
Although the mechanical virtues (or otherwise) of veteran, vintage and classic tractors are interesting enough in themselves, to me they are nothing without the history that goes with them – and in recent weeks I’ve been privileged to witness some deeply nostalgic re-enactions of how farming used to be done.

New restorations galore at Ballymena
The Traction Engine Club of Ulster staged its first rally in 1967, and for many years the event took place at Shane’s Castle. In the 1990s there was a move to the Ballymena Stadium – maybe not as romantic as the original, but it does have plenty of hard standing, pleasant fields and...

Twilight of the twins
Our technical editor visits Herbert Epton at Carrington, Lincs, to take a close look at his magnificent John Deere R, the model that marked the firm’s first foray into diesel power.
It’s ironic, in these days of spiralling fuel costs, to consider that John Deere didn’t make a diesel-engined tractor until 1949. When they did, though, they didn’t muck about, building...

Keep rust at bay the Waxoyl way!
Corrosion is probably one of the biggest risks to your tractor’s appearance, especially if it’s cabbed or has substantial rear wings – and that’s where Waxoyl, the UK’s best-selling rustproofing product for almost 50 years, can come in.
Tractor magazine has four five-litre cans of Waxoyl to give away!
